Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) said that the State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid) is interested in investing in Indonesia. State Grid itself is an electricity supply company from China.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif explained that State Grid is currently a transmission provider company that is quite experienced in the world. It is recorded that they have provided electricity supplies to more than 1.1 billion people in the panda country.
“He has also collaborated abroad. Now there is cooperation with PLN, yes, we will push for this to work, this is how we can build energy transmission, especially electricity, so that it can be as good as possible, there are many who haven’t connected yet,” said Arifin. met at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Building, Thursday (26/10/2023).
Therefore, Arifin also hopes that the collaboration between PT PLN (Persero) and State Grid to build a transmission network can be realized soon. In fact, he also requested that this cooperation project be immediately included in PLN’s Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL).
According to Arifin, one of the projects that will be offered to State Grid is an interconnection network to connect the Java-Bali and Sumatra electricity systems with a capacity of 500 kilo volts (kV).
“For example, in the Sumatra area, the HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current Transmission) connection, the 500 kV transmission only reaches South Sumatra, Palembang, please connect it to Medan,” he said.
Arifin explained that along the route that will be electrified, there are quite a lot of new and renewable energy sources (EBT) that can be utilized. Starting from energy sourced from water, sun and geothermal energy.
So, with this collaboration it is hoped that the EBT mix in Indonesia can increase significantly. Considering the transmission network is very important to realize the transition to clean energy.
Apart from the interconnection network to connect the Java-Bali and Sumatra electricity systems, the government also offers interconnection networks in other regions. For example, like in Sulawesi.
“Sulawesi has a lot of wind, gas and water. Yes, the network has been optimized, but the network just doesn’t connect from south to north. That’s included in the RUPTL, even though it’s 500 kV, we hope that in 2025 it should be able to connect because in the north we already burn diesel,” he said.
