Israel Paralyzes Gaza, Elon Musk Intervenes to Bring Starlink Tech – 5 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – SpaceX founder Elon Musk said Starlink would provide an internet connection network in the Gaza area. This follows communication in Gaza which was completely cut off after the Israeli attack on Friday, October 27 2023.

Quote ReutersSunday (29/10/2023), the internet connection will later connect communications from Gaza to internationally recognized aid organizations.

However, Musk said in X’s social media post that it was unclear who had authority for land routes in Gaza at this time. However, no party has requested a connection in the Gaza area so far.

Musk’s plan of course raised objections from the Israeli side. Israel’s Communications Minister strongly opposes Musk’s efforts to provide internet access in Gaza.

For your information, the Israeli attack completely shut down all telephone and internet access in Gaza. This has made Gaza isolated from the outside world and each other since Saturday (28/10/2023).

This situation means that residents in Gaza cannot contact loved ones, ambulances and colleagues elsewhere as Israel expands its air and ground attacks.

A number of international humanitarian organizations said the power outage that started from Friday (27/10/2023) evening worsened the situation in Gaza. This hampered operations in some hospitals and prevented contact with their staff in the field.

Reuters has requested a response from SpaceX management regarding plans to provide a Starlink network that will be used by aid organizations and not by the Palestinian militant group Hamas, the party that controls the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi responded to Musk’s post on X that his party would use all means to fight the SpaceX CEO’s plans.

“Hamas will use it for terrorist activities. Maybe Musk is willing to condition it by releasing kidnapped babies, sons, daughters, elderly people. Everyone! At that time, my office will sever any ties with Starlink,” Karhi wrote.

For information, after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the Starlink satellite was said to be very important for maintaining internet connectivity in several regions despite attempts at interference from Russia.

Since then, Musk has refused to expand coverage of Russian-occupied Crimea and refused to allow his satellites to be used for Ukrainian attacks on Russian forces there.
