Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Candidate for Vice President (Cawapres) Gibran Rakabuming mentioned the credit program for start-up companies during his declaration at Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, last Wednesday (25/10).
President Joko Widodo’s eldest son said startup credit was aimed at millennials. Its business sector is focused on innovation and technology-based start-up companies. He has not explained in more detail about the program.
General Chair of the Tech Startup Association Handito Joewono said, if you look at the construction of startups now, the perpetrators or founders are mostly young people in the millennial generation. Although, it has started to spread to older and younger generations.
However, according to him, in recent years the startup industry in Indonesia has slumped. Previously, the number of startups in Indonesia reached 1000, but now there are no more than 500.
Through the political promises given by Gibran, it is a breath of fresh air for this industry.
“There are signs of revival, but it takes time and needs support. So, I think this effort to support startups by providing credit could be a good breath of fresh air. Hopefully this can be realized,” said Handito in the program Tech A Look on CNBC Indonesia, Friday (27/10/2023).
He emphasized that developing a startup is not just an idea or funds in the form of credit or investment, but also taking it forward with a business model that is designed to work.
Moreover, in this era, investors look at the direction of their business model, whether it is profitable or not. For this reason, the re-development of startups in Indonesia is a good thing, but it must also be developed comprehensively.
“Don’t forget that startup companies are also companies, they have to survive, if they want to survive, market access is very important. Now certain industries need to be given space, the government needs to have support there, which sectors should we open for startup companies.” he concluded.
