Labor Demonstration: 15% Increase in Labor Wages Dead Price News – 2 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) and the Labor Party are urging the government to increase the minimum wage by 15% by 2024. Workers have threatened to go on strike if this desire is not met.

“Our demand is 15% of the fixed price,” said Secretary General of the Federation of Indonesian Metal Workers Unions (FSPMI) Sabilar Rosyad during a speech in the Horse Statue area, Central Jakarta, Friday (27/10/2023).

FSPMI is a work union that is a member of KSPI. KSPI and the Labor Party held a series of demonstrations today in front of the United Nations Building in Jakarta and the Horse Statue area.

Demonstration in front of the UN office demanding that the Hamas vs Israel war be stopped. Meanwhile, a demonstration at the Horse Statue was held demanding an increase in the 2024 minimum wage by 15%.

Rosyad said that workers had held numerous demonstrations to demand that their wages increase by at least 15% from the 2023 minimum wage. However, he considered that the government had not fulfilled the aspirations of the workers.

“The 2024 minimum wage is before our eyes,” he said.

He said that the Minister of Manpower, Ida Fauziyah, had stated that the calculation of workers’ wages for 2024 would consider 3 aspects. The first is workers’ purchasing power, the second is to overcome inflation and the third is to overcome wage disparities between regions.

However, he said, workers felt that the formulation for calculating wages for 2024 did not meet these 3 considerations. He said that in the Draft Government Regulation on Wages 2024, the formula for calculating wages next year only allows workers to increase their salary by IDR 70 thousand.

“How can we boost purchasing power and overcome inflation,” he said.

He said workers must consolidate to demand a minimum wage increase of 15%. If these demands are not met, he asked workers to prepare to go on strike.

“Prepare yourselves to leave the factory, to stop production, turn off all production machines,” he said.
