Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Microsoft recruited former CEO and founder of OpenAI Sam Altman, after being suddenly fired by the board of directors on Friday (17/11) last week.
OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman, who was fired a few minutes after Altman, was also ‘transported’ by Microsoft, quoted from TheVerge, Monday (20/11/2023).
This was revealed by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella via his personal X account. He said Microsoft would continue to partner with OpenAI, even though Altman had left the startup behind ChatGPT.
Nadella also said he supports Emmet Shear as the new CEO of OpenAI. Previously, Shear was the boss of Twitch, a game streaming service under Amazon.
Nadella did not specifically explain Altman and Brockman’s positions at Microsoft. What is clear is that they will head the artificial intelligence (AI) technology development team at Microsoft.
“We are thrilled to announce the news that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, along with several colleagues, will join to lead a new AI research team at Microsoft. We can’t wait to quickly provide them with the necessary tools to support their success,” said Nadella.
Altman’s announcement as a Microsoft employee only came a few hours after he negotiated with the OpenAI board of directors. However, the discussion seems to have stalled.
OpenAI’s board of directors stands by their decision to fire Altman. According to the board of directors, they no longer have confidence in Altman’s ability to lead OpenAI.
