MSMEs are only digitally literate but are afraid to move from manual technology – 6 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Many MSMEs apparently still use manual methods of running their business. This is happening in the midst of technological developments and a number of other MSMEs have gone digital.

Director & Chief Business Officer PT Indosat Tbk. (Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison) Muhammad Buldansyah revealed that there are still many MSMEs that record their finances manually. Apart from that, many of them know digital but don’t know how to use it.

“You just know digital. But you don’t understand how to use it,” said the man whose nickname is Danny, at a Casual Chat event in Jakarta, Wednesday (8/11/2023).

This is a limitation for MSMEs to rise to a higher level. There is also the problem of lack of access to customers and limited access to finance.

For access to customers, most MSMEs cannot reach buyers who are located too far from their origin. Danny said that these MSMEs were only local.

Meanwhile, for finances, MSMEs usually have difficulty carrying out large orders. Because the capital owned is still limited.

In Indonesia alone it is estimated that there are 60 million MSMEs. Most or 80%-90% are in the micro class.

“For them to be able to move up to the challenge class, there are many. Many of them change. There is no other way to have a sales cart next year,” he explained.

Since last year, Indosat has developed a digital ecosystem for MSMEs through the Indosat Digital Ecosystem (IDE). This provides many solutions and features that can be used for MSME operations.

IDE also forms several components. Starting from IDE Academy for education from experts, IDE Insights to get various data on business needs, as well as the IDE Shop which provides business solutions on the platform.

“In Indosat’s general outline, apart from IDE, supporting digital transformation, one of the ways is filling the digital talent gap. What Indonesia needs is close to 1 million each year,” said Danny.
