Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Indonesian government is starting to plan to boost the development of new fuels for the transportation sector other than fuel oil (BBM), namely green hydrogen.
In fact, through PT PLN (Persero), RI will conduct green hydrogen trials on cars made by two large automotive manufacturers, namely Toyota and Hyundai.
PLN Indonesia Power President Director Edwin Nugraha Putra said that his party was preparing a supply chain for future green hydrogen needs as an environmentally friendly alternative fuel.
This follows the inauguration of 21 units of green hydrogen plants or Green Hydrogen Plants (GHP) spread throughout Indonesia.
Edwin said, to open a hydrogen car ecosystem in Indonesia, his party had met with two global automotive manufacturers, namely Hyundai and Toyota, which have produced hydrogen fueled cars.
Toyota with its product called Mirai and Hyundai with its hydrogen car called Nexo.
“We have also met with the dealer owners, like Toyota has the Mirai, then Hyundai has the Hyundai Nexo. So these are two types of cars that currently use hydrogen in the world, of course this is very correlated with the existing infrastructure,” explained Edwin. in CNBC Indonesia’s Energy Corner event, quoted Thursday (23/11/2023).
According to him, currently PLN is collaborating with BRIN to carry out trials for the two cars. Therefore, he hopes that the infrastructure for developing hydrogen fuel in Indonesia can be more massive.
As for the production results from the 21 GHP, 75 tons per year will be used for generator operational needs (cooling generator). Meanwhile, the other 124 tons can be used for various needs, one of which is for vehicles.
“For example, we can produce 10, but only 3 are for (generating needs), so the rest is what we then use to fill the Hydrogen Refueling Station or hydrogen refilling station,” he said.
Edwin said PLN’s GHP was produced using sources from the solar power plant (PLTS) located in the generating area. Apart from being produced from installed PLTS, this green hydrogen also uses a Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) which comes from several EBT generators in Indonesia.
“So we can now claim that these 21 locations produce 100% green hydrogen,” he said.
At least, of the many projects in various locations, PLN itself will start by building a Hydrogen Refueling Station in Senayan, Jakarta.
“So, God willing, in January 1 Hydrogen Refueling Station (HRS) will operate in Senayan,” he added.
