Furthermore, presidential candidate Anies Baswedan is also a 1995 graduate of the UGM Faculty of Economics. He was elected Chair of the university Senate at the 1992 congress and made several breakthroughs within the student body at UGM.

Anies formed the Student Executive Board (BEM) as an executive institution positioning the senate as a legislative institution which was ratified by congress in 1993.
