Starlink Arrives in RI, Enters Through This Region Tech – 1 hour ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Since some time ago, SpaceX’s Starlink has been rumored to be coming to Indonesia. The Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (Bakti) Kominfo has opened its voice regarding this possibility.

In talks with the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, SpaceX boss Elon Musk said he wanted to enter Starlink in the East.

“Secondly, he wants Starlink to be able to operate in our rural areas and coincidentally the Minister of Health joined in too, and saw that many of our villages cannot be reached by the internet,” said Luhut in a post on his Instagram account last August.

“Therefore, we agreed with Elon to enter Starlink in Eastern Indonesia,” he added.

Asked about the arrival of Starlink, Bakti Infrastructure Director Danny Januar Ismawan only said that his party was prioritizing neutral technology. Whichever party with better benefits will be considered.

He said that currently the arrival of Starlink is still being discussed at the regulatory level. So they are still waiting for the sequel.

“In response to Starlink, we at Bakti always prioritize neutral technology. We will of course consider any option that provides better benefits for the country,” said Danny during a Media Briefing at the Bakti office, Tuesday (24/10/2023).

In terms of budget, Starlink is considered competitive compared to other options. However, in principle, Bakti will consider the efficiency side.

“But in principle, currently the cellular backhaul function is something we are considering. Because in terms of budget efficiency, Starlink is very competitive with other solutions,” he explained.
