Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Indonesian Solidarity Party or PSI officially supports the pair Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as presidential and vice presidential candidates for 2024. The announcement was made directly by PSI General Chair Kaesang Pangarep at the Santuy “Ojo Rungkad” Presidential Election Concert at The Jakarta Theater Ballroom, Tuesday (24/10/2023).
“We, the Indonesian Solidarity Party, are ready to support Mr Prabowo Subianto and Mas Gibran Rakabuming Raka as presidential and vice presidential candidates for 2024,” said Kaesang in his speech at the concert.
The announcement was marked by a joke from President Joko Widodo’s youngest son when he announced that his party was supporting Prabowo and his older brother, Gibran, to run for the presidential election. Kaesang initially mentioned Prabowo and his own name which was supported by PSI to run for presidential election. However, Kaesang hastily annulled his statement.
“Who knows, maybe I still have a chance, I’ll just try it a little,” he said.
Kaesang said PSI supported Prabowo and Gibran because the average age of the two of them was the youngest compared to other candidate pairs. According to him, youth is a characteristic color of PSI.
“Try Just Googled it and this is really PSI like that, you know because we are usually young and young at heart,” he said.
He said PSI was confident that the Prabowo-Gibran pair would be able to continue development and programs that were in line with the direction of the younger generation. He said his party wanted the progress experienced by Indonesia to continue and be expanded.
“Also in line with the PSI ninja way, we advised Pak Prabowo and Mas Gibran to make the 2024 election a general election that is polite and santuynot the least bit aggressive, let alone slanderous,” he said.
This concert and declaration was attended by a number of general chairmen of the member parties of the Advanced Indonesia Coalition which supported Prabowo-Gibran. Party leaders who attended included the General Chair of the Crescent Star Party, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, the General Chair of the Gelora Party Anis Matta, the General Chair of the Prima Party, Agus Jabo, and the General Chair of the Garuda Party, Ahmad Ridha.
Prabowo later also attended the declaration directly. In his speech, Prabowo seemed more relaxed. He explained why he finally joined President Jokowi’s government. He also joked about the guest list being too large.
“Those I respect, those I respect, do I need to read this? You’ll be offended, the general chairman will be offended, the secretary general will be offended, you’ll leave the coalition, be careful,” he said, greeted with laughter.
