Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Indonesian Ulema Council issued a fatwa prohibiting support for Israel. A website containing a list of company products deemed to support the colonization of Palestine by Israel has gone viral on social media.
The MUI Fatwa Commission released the Latest Fatwa Number 83 of 2023 concerning the Law on Support for the Palestinian Struggle at the end of last week. This fatwa recommends that Muslims avoid using products affiliated with Israel.
“Muslims are advised to avoid as much as possible transactions and use of products affiliated with Israel and those that support colonialism and Zionism,” stressed MUI Chair for Fatwa, Asrorun Niam Sholeh, quoted from the official MUI website on Friday (17/11/2023).
Through this fatwa, the MUI also recommended that the government take firm steps in helping the Palestinian struggle.
After the MUI issued the fatwa, a list claiming to contain pro-Israel products circulated widely on social media. MUI Fatwa Commission Secretary Miftahul Huda has provided an explanation regarding the product list.
He emphasized that the MUI had never banned these products. MUI also does not have the competence to release a list of Israeli and affiliated products.
“So, MUI is not competent to release Israeli products, or those affiliated with Israel. And what we forbid is not the product, but its support activities,” he said in a written statement, Wednesday (15/11/2023).
He emphasized that MUI also does not forbid products that are certified halal.
“So, for example, if a product has been certified halal, we have no right to revoke it. Because the halal certification system involves many parties. So, we have never released the product list,” stressed Miftahul.
One of the pro-Israel product lists that has gone viral on social media is the Bdnaash website. This website claims to have a database of companies and their products that are considered to support the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
How to check Israeli affiliate products
