Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Indonesian automotive market will welcome the newest premium brand, namely Genesis. This news came from the Chief Operating Officer of PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) Fransiscus Soerjopranoto. Genesis is Hyundai’s premium sub brand and comes from South Korea.
“We will definitely introduce Genesis in Indonesia. Starting as a vehicle at events like the G20 yesterday, because it is a premium class high end segment, we will definitely introduce this product as a part of Hyundai in Indonesia, so wait for the play date,” said Soerjo at the office Hyundai SCBD, Tuesday (7/11/2023).
One of the Genesis cars that has entered Indonesia is the Genesis G80. This car is included in the sedan segment.
“We will not only introduce sedans, but we will also introduce non-sedans, that’s the leak,” said Soerjo.
The Genesis G80 initially entered Indonesia as an operational vehicle for delegates to the G-20 Summit at the end of 2022, but after the event Hyundai sold it to the public. Apart from this car, Genesis is not yet generally sold in the Indonesian automotive market.
If it is later sold en masse in RI, Genesis will face several other premium brands such as Lexus which is a premium brand from Toyota, not to mention European brands such as BMW and Mercedes Benz must also be prepared.
“The automotive market in Indonesia is not flat, there is LCGC, A segment to premium segment. So does Genesis have a market? There really is, there is also a market for Genesis. (Against European brands?) There is BMW, Mercy, Lexus. Korea has Genesis so that’s exciting, right? Soerjo said.
