Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – K-pop artist Eric Nam announced the cancellation of his concert schedule in Malaysia. This is the aftermath of Eric Nam’s action in liking a post with a neutral tone regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Eric was originally scheduled to greet his fans in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the ‘House on A Hill’ tour which will be held in 2024. However, the schedule in Malaysia suddenly disappeared after the idol received harsh criticism.
Through an upload on his Instagram story, Eric Nam admitted to receiving threats. “I received threats regarding my tour schedule in Kuala Lumpur. Due to safety considerations for the team and all fans, I was forced to make the difficult decision to cancel the concert,” he wrote, Monday (30/10/2023).
In the same upload, Eric also clarified his position regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Eric tells the chronology of when he likes a post feeds on Instagram @jordancbrown who advocates a different view of the ongoing crisis. The post read:
“It is perfectly reasonable and logical to oppose the Israeli government’s treatment of Palestinians, AND AT THE SAME TIME call for the protection of Jews in Israel and around the world…“
This neutral attitude is interpreted by many fans as meaning that Eric has turned a blind eye to the humanitarian crisis in Palestine. This sparked disappointment among his fans, as reported Kpopstarz.
Not long after this controversial action, Eric announced the ‘House on A Hill 2024’ tour schedule, one of which will be held in Kuala Lumpur. However, he received ridicule from an Internet user who said that they did not want Eric to go to Malaysia.
“Why should you go to Kuala Lumpur? Just skip our country, bruh #SavePalestineSaveHumanity #FreePalestine.“
After this strong reaction, Eric Nam made a surprising move by removing the Kuala Lumpur concert dates from his website.
In the post announcing the official cancellation of the concert schedule in Malaysia, Eric clarified by saying, “Sign like “What I gave in that post was my reaction when I woke up and read the very heartbreaking news, as someone who has always been pro-humanity, pro-peace, and pro love and equality for all.”
“My heart aches for the Palestinians and Israelis who have been devastated and lost their family members due to this violence.”
