Disappearing under pressure from China, Apple factory boss appears in tech presidential campaign – 8 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Foxconn owner Terry Gou has surfaced after being missing for several days. He avoided discussing the issue of the Chinese government suddenly auditing taxes at several Foxconn facilities, after his declaration of running as a presidential candidate (presidential candidate) for Taiwan.

Gou’s public appearance was at an event held for his supporters. This indicates that he is not afraid of pressure from Beijing. To the media crew, Gou said he would stand straight to advance as number 1 person in Taiwan.

He convinced voters to support his move to run as an independent candidate. Gou did not comment further on the ongoing Foxconn case in China.

However, he emphasized that he did not want war between Taiwan and China, quoted from YahooFinanceMonday (30/10/2023).

Previously, the Chinese government launched an in-depth investigation into Foxconn’s land use in the Bamboo Curtain country. Several Foxconn branches are suspected of violating applicable laws and regulations in China.

China’s natural resources department also carried out direct inspections of Foxconn facilities to look at land use in Henan and Hubei provinces.

However, it was not explained further when the Chinese government’s investigation period into Foxconn facilities took place.

Last August, Gou said China would not dare to ‘touch’ Foxconn. The reason is, the company has too many global investors and customers, including Apple and Tesla.

In his campaign speech, Gou assured that he could strengthen Taipei’s relations with Beijing. However, Xi Jinping’s government consistently claims Taiwan is its territory.

So far, Xi Jinping has not launched any force to take over Taiwan’s more than 23 million islands. Foxconn’s strong operations in China have raised concerns that Beijing will pressure Gou through his business.
