Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – It turns out that medical equipment services can be covered by the Health Social Security Administering Agency (BPJS Health). These medical devices can be provided to both outpatient and inpatient BPJS participants.

This policy has been regulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 3 of 2023 concerning Health Service Tariff Standards in the Implementation of Health Insurance Programs.


This regulation was stipulated on January 6 2023 by the Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin and was promulgated on January 9 2023 by the Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H Laoly.

The following is a list of medical devices covered by BPJS according to the Republic of Indonesia Minister of Health Regulation Number 3 of 2023, quoted on Tuesday (31/10/2023).

1. Glasses

BPJS participating patients with vision problems according to medical indications will receive glasses coverage from BPJS Health. This guarantee will be given on the recommendation of an ophthalmologist and supported by the results of an eye examination.

The size of glasses guaranteed by BPJS Health is a minimum of 0.5 diopters for spherical lenses and 0.25 diopters for cylindrical lenses. In addition, glasses can be given a maximum of once every two years.

Recipients of Contribution Assistance (PBI) and class 3 treatment rights will receive a ceiling amount of IDR 165 thousand. Then, BPJS Health participants with class 2 treatment rights receive IDR 220 thousand. Finally, patients with class 1 treatment rights receive a ceiling of IDR 330 thousand.

2. Hearing Aids

Apart from glasses, BPJS Health participants can also get coverage for the cost of hearing aids. In order to get a hearing aid, the patient must have a medical indication without distinguishing between one or two ears and the same ear.

Meanwhile, the maximum amount of hearing aids covered by BPJS Health is IDR 1.1 million. These hearing aids can be given no sooner than once every 5 years based on a prescription from an ENT specialist.

3. Dental Prostheses (False Teeth)

Dental prostheses or false teeth are replacements for teeth lost due to extraction or trauma. BPJS Health can cover full dental prostheses at a maximum cost of IDR 1.1 million, while the ceiling for each jaw is a maximum of IDR 550 thousand.

“Dental prostheses are given no sooner than once every 2 (two) years based on medical indications for the same tooth,” wrote RI Minister of Health Regulation Number 3 of 2023.

4. Locomotor Protheses

Apart from dental prostheses, BPJS Health also covers locomotor prostheses in the form of prosthetic legs and arms. Meanwhile, the cost of claiming a mobility device prosthesis covered by BPJS Health is a maximum of IDR 2,750,000.

“Given no sooner than once in 5 (five) years for medical indications for the same locomotor prosthesis and given based on a prescription from a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation,” write the BPJS Health requirements in the Minister of Health Regulation.

5. Spinal Corset

Spinal corsets are used to support the spine and reduce stress on the spine and joints. For BPJS participants who want to get a spinal corset, BPJS Health will cover it at a maximum cost of IDR 385 thousand.

For the record, corsets can be given no sooner than once every two years based on medical indications from a doctor.

6. Collar Neck

Collar neck or neck support is one of the medical devices covered by BPJS Health with a maximum cost of IDR 165 thousand. Similar to spinal corsets, neck collars are given no sooner than once every two years based on medical indications from a doctor.

7. Crutches

Crutches are a medical device in the form of body support, such as a stick. BPJS Health is guaranteed to cover the cost of crutches up to a maximum of IDR 385 thousand and will be given no later than once every 5 years for medical indications.
