As a result, it was seen that the escalation of netizen discussions about Gibran’s candidacy peaked after the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) to ratify the regulations regarding the minimum age limit for vice presidential candidates.
According to the report, many groups supporting Ganjar or PDIP expressed disappointment with Gibran’s candidacy. In terms of intensity, the group supporting Ganjar or PDIP is more active in commenting on this issue than supporters of Anies Baswedan.
“The pro Ganjar/PDIP group mostly expressed their disappointment by labeling Gibran a ‘traitor’,” wrote the report, quoted Thursday (26/10/2023).
Reports say that the issue of Gibran’s candidacy is rooted in the results of the Constitutional Court’s decision which is considered problematic by netizens, because it could threaten democracy in Indonesia.
In response, many netizens supporting Prabowo and Gibran built a narrative that President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) eldest son was running for vice president because he was often humiliated by PDIP and General Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri.
On several occasions, Megawati often emphasized that Jokowi did not get ‘power’ without PDIP.
Negative conversations about Gibran’s candidacy generally revolve around several topics. These include the Constitutional Court’s decision regarding the age limit for vice presidential candidates, criticizing Jokowi’s dynasty politics, calling Gibran a traitor, calling Gibran ‘mencla-mencle’ and disloyal to the party, as well as criticizing Jokowi’s steps to do anything to perpetuate power.
