Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government has succeeded in cracking down on and destroying cheap imported goods entering Indonesia. This was done in response to complaints from the business world, where imported goods flooded the domestic market.
This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto at a press conference after leading the destruction of illegally imported goods at the Cikarang Customs and Excise Stockpiling Complex, Simpangan, North Cikarang District, Bekasi Regency, West Java, Thursday (26/10).
“Today’s activity is a follow-up to various problems faced by imported goods, namely the flood of cheap imported products on the market and this is disrupting domestic production and secondly, many associations are making complaints and of course these illegal imported goods are really disrupting the performance of our UKM or IKM, Director General ,” said Airlangga.
Also present were the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, the Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, Commissioner General Pol. Wahyu Widada, West Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Akhmad Wiyagus, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy Susiwijono Moegiarso, Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy Haryo Limanseto, Director General of Customs and Excise Askolani, Danpuspom TNI Marshal R. Agung Handoko.

Imported goods that were prosecuted and destroyed were valued at IDR 40 billion, including used clothing products, steel products, pipes, SNI mandatory commodities, forestry products, electronics, cosmetics, food and beverages, as well as measuring instruments and other textile products.
The destruction was carried out by symbolically crushing some of the illegally imported goods.

The same thing was also conveyed by the Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan. According to him, with this action, domestic industry can develop better.
“Hopefully cooperation will continue like this, which has been good so far, we will be even better. Hopefully by continuing to work together like we do (like this) the domestic industry will be protected and also for us to be good friends,” he said.
