Bulog Obtains Contract to Import 1 Million Tons of Rice from 4 Countries News – 3 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Perum Bulog revealed that it had obtained rice procurement contracts from a number of countries. This contract is for the assignment of 1.5 million tons of rice imports.

“In the midst of a situation where it is very difficult to get imported rice, Bulog has succeeded in getting a contract for 1 million tons of the government’s additional rice import assignment quota of 1.5 million tons,” said Bulog’s Director of Supply Chain and Public Services, Mokhamad Suyamto, in an official statement. , quoted Friday (3/11/2023).

“Currently we have contracts with several countries where there is still a lot of production. Namely Thailand, Vietnam, Pakistan and Myanmar. We will also explore with India and Cambodia and other countries that are possible and meet the requirements,” he added.

As is known, on October 9 2023, the government announced plans to increase the rice import quota assigned to Bulog. After assigning imports of 2 million tons in 2023, the government added a new assignment of 1.5 million tons of rice. In this way, Bulog will receive an import assignment of 3.5 million tons in 2023.

Suyamto said that his party would carry out careful calculations before carrying out the new assignment.

“Even though the government has given Bulog an additional import quota of 1.5 million tons, its implementation will be adjusted to domestic distribution needs,” he said.

Bulog Stock

On the other hand, Suyamto revealed that currently the rice stock controlled by Bulog is 1.45 million tons.

“With the new addition of import assignments from the government, the stock will be stronger for distribution needs until next year in order to maintain rice price stability in the community,” he said.

He also asked the public not to panic even though there was an increase in rice prices. This is because the current price increase is the effect of the El Nino climate phenomenon.

“The public does not need to worry, the government through Bulog guarantees that rice needs are available to the community at affordable prices even though there is a slight price increase on the market. We are monitoring continuously in the midst of the current situation so that it remains under control,” said Suyamto.

It was stated that to date, Bulog has distributed 885 thousand tons of rice for market operations or Stabilization of Food Supply and Prices (SPHP) throughout Indonesia. This activity, he added, will continue until prices stabilize.

“Right now Food Aid Rice is being distributed for September October and November with a total of 641 thousand tons to underprivileged communities throughout Indonesia,” he concluded.

Rice Balance Sheet

Previously, the National Food Agency (Bapanas) projected that rice stock resilience in 2024 would be 95 days. According to estimates, there will be rice stocks of 7.85 million tons by the end of December 2023.

This figure comes from initial stocks in January 2023 of 4.06 million tons. Production in 2023 is estimated to reach 30.89 million tons. Without exports, and adding imports which will reach 2.5 million tons, there will be a large availability of 38 .46 million tons this year.

Assuming national consumption is 30.61 million tons or around 2.55 million tons per month, there will be a final stock of more than 7 million tons.
