09:09 Video MUI Bans Buying Pro-Israel Products, RI Consumption Affected? News – 32 minutes ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia- The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) issued Fatwa Number 83 of 2023, which contains the Law of Support for Palestine. In this Fatwa it is stated that supporting the struggle for Palestinian independence against Israeli aggression is obligatory. On the other hand, supporting Israel and supporting products that support Israel are haram.

Looking at the impact of the MUI’s haram fatwa, UI economist Ninasapti Triaswati has not seen a large direct effect in the regions, but if public awareness becomes more widespread it could have a bigger impact.

On the other hand, this condition could also be an opportunity for local products to replace the role of products included in the MUI fatwa. Although this still really depends on people’s tastes.

In line with Nina, INDEF economist, Rizal Taufikurahman, said that the impact of the MUI fatwa could have an impact on the economy if 4 things were fulfilled. This is related to public obedience, socialization and consumer knowledge of Israeli-affiliated products so that there are substitute products.

What is the impact of the MUI’s pro-Israel fatwa on the Indonesian economy? For complete details, see Bramudya Prabowod’s dialogue with INDEF Economist, Rizal Taufikurahman and UI Economist, Ninasapti Triaswati on Profit,CNBCIndonesia (Monday, 13/11/2023)
