Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Microsoft’s artificial intelligence chat robot, Copilot, is starting to be available on Windows 10. A platform similar to ChatGPT is currently only available on Windows 11.
Microsoft released an update containing Copilot for Windows 11, their newest operating system, starting October 31, 2023. Currently, Windows 11 is used by 27 percent of Windows operating system users. Windows 10 is the most popular operating system, which is used by 68 percent of PC users.
Since the launch of ChatGPT, technology companies have been competing to release their own generative artificial intelligence (AI) platforms. Microsoft is one of the main investors in OpenAI, the company that owns ChatGPT.
ChatGPT, which is now claimed to have 100 million weekly active users, is a technology that can be “taught” with large amounts of data which is then used to carry out human commands by creating sentences, self-made images, and even sounds.
In addition to answering questions, chatbots using generative AI can draw conclusions from large amounts of documents and write email drafts.
Copilot uses GPT technology, as does ChatGPT.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated that Copilot could be used as an “everyday AI companion.”
Copilot is now available in the Bing search engine, Edge browser, and Dynamic business software. However, according to CNBC International, Microsoft was extra careful in launching Copilot on Windows because it wanted to ensure the difference in Copilot performance on Windows 11 and Windows 10.
The company founded by Bill Gates is also taking slower steps in providing Copilot in their Office applications. Copilot only became available in Microsoft 365 earlier this month after a months-long early access program.
Copilot will be available on PCs running Windows 10 version 22h2, Home and Pro editions, privately owned. Versions of Windows 10 maintained by organizations, whether companies or educational institutions, will also not receive Copilot updates.
This feature can be turned on by entering the Settings page, going to Update & Security, then clicking Windows Update. Users can then turn on the button labeled “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” and then click “Check for updates.”
After updating, a button will appear on the right side of the taskbar. By clicking the button, a chat window will appear at the bottom right of the screen. The version on Windows 10 is similar to Copilot on Bing, so it cannot perform the same function as Copilot on Windows 11.
Microsoft’s support for Windows 10 is planned to end in October 2025. After that, Windows users must upgrade to Windows 11 if they want to continue receiving updates.
