Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Apple Vision Pro advanced glasses are ready to be released next year. The virtual reality device, which costs IDR 54 million, can only be purchased in one store, namely the Apple Store.
Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed the exclusive sales locations for the Vision Pro in a conversation with Apple investors.
An investor asked Cook about plans to launch and sell Vision Pro. He wants to know whether this gadget will be released like the Apple Watch or AirPods.
“I don’t think so. Vision Prop is the first product. So, we will deliberately launch it in our stores so we can focus down to the final sales point. We will offer demos in stores, it will be different from the normal sales process, come and take it home,” Cook said.
According to Mark Gurman, an Apple expert, the Vision Pro will be sold in a special room with seating. Prospective buyers can try headsets made by Apple in these seats. Apple also prepares special staff to help potential buyers. In fact, buyers have to make an appointment if they want to buy Vision Pro.
Cook did not explain the potential for purchasing the Vision Pro online. Currently, Apple’s website displays information that the product will be sold in early 2024. Previously, the information on the website stated “available at Apple.com and Apple retail stores in the US.”

This change in sales model seems to reflect the new policy that Cook is hinting at. The Vision Pro device is considered too complicated to be sold like a regular product.
It could be that this limited sales policy is a sign that Apple is having difficulty producing the Vision Pro in large quantities. Previously it was reported that Sony could only produce less than 500 thousand micro LED screens used as components of the Vision Pro. Each product is designed using two 4K screens made by Sony.
Apple is also reportedly looking for suppliers other than Sony to meet production targets while reducing manufacturing costs. Two companies from China are said to have approached Apple to become alternative component sources.
With lower production costs, Apple can sell similar devices at lower prices with lower specifications. The target is a price of US$ 1,000 (Rp. 15.5 million) to US$ 1,500 (Rp. 23.23 million) like other Apple products. Reportedly, the cheaper product will be called Vision, without the Pro frills.
