Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Children who are on the way to maturity are strong enough to absorb and record all information in the surrounding environment. Therefore, parents must be wise in their behavior and even saying things.
According to Margot Machol Bisnow, a writer and childcare expert from the United States (US), parental communication plays a big role in shaping children in the future. This conclusion was obtained after Bisnow interviewed 70 parents who raised their children to become very successful adults.
He said there are four words that parents of children who grow up to become successful people never use.
1. “You Can’t Play After School Until Your Grades Improve”
Many parents do not understand their children’s desires and aspirations. Some children may not actually have the desire to be good at academics, but their parents actually impose their own wishes.
Parents should support their children’s wishes. Because playing activities help children learn to socialize and make rules and agreements. That way, children have the opportunity to learn until they are able to make decisions.

2. “Mom and Dad Will Give You Money If You Get Good Grades”
Giving money when a child gets good grades, or completes other school assignments, is not recommended. When parents only focus on achievement and satisfactory grades at school, the child’s potential will wither before it can develop.
Grades and achievements at school are important, but don’t forget that parents also need to support the development of various other aspects of life so that children grow into complete and positive individuals.
3. “Mom and Dad Don’t Believe You, So Dad/Mom Checks Your Homework and Corrects If There’s Something Wrong”
John Arrow, owner of Mutual Mobile, a leading technology company, admitted that when he was in fifth grade, he and his friends wrote the school newspaper, which immediately sold out. However, they failed to carry out fact checking.
The principal became very angry, and his friends got into trouble with their parents. But John’s parents laughed and told him to correct his mistake.
“Knowing my parents would support me, even when the school was against me, made me work harder to show them that they had made the right decision in trusting me,” John said.
4. “Father/Mother Gives You Extra Pocket Money So You Can Buy Whatever You Want”
The negative impact of spoiling children stems from parents’ habits of granting all their children’s wishes. This habit indirectly prevents children from learning the concept and attitude of responsibility.
Children who are used to being pampered with money will become lazy, unmotivated, and also easily angry if their desires are not fulfilled. Ultimately, they will grow up without emotional maturity, and have difficulty coping with problems when they grow up.
All parents should emphasize the importance of responsibility from an early age. They want children to take responsibility, face their own problems, learn from mistakes and become more confident as they get older.
The most important thing is to give children an understanding of the uses of pocket money and provide facilities for children to save.
