Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Term work from anywhere (WFA) or working remotely has become increasingly popular since the Covid-19 pandemic. Even though the Covid-19 pandemic has ended, remote working is almost certain to be a trend that continues to exist.

For Generation Z, working remotely is the main choice because they can work while visiting their favorite destinations. Currently, working while visiting your favorite destination is known as workcation.

Launching from CNBC Make ItBerlin-based human resources (HR) platform WorkMotion released a list of 85 cities around the world that are easy and attractive for remote workers.

The ranking of the 85 cities is based on a number of assessments, namely the type of visa required, supporting infrastructure for remote work, visitor experience, security, access to health services, housing access, mobility, level of happiness, income tax rates, and availability of food and housing.

“When selecting potential destinations for [workcation]”, remote workers must consider various factors, from practical things to what they want,” said WorkMotion Co-Founder and Management Director, Carsten Lebtig, quoted Thursday (26/10/2023).

“Not many cities can offer it all, but it’s undeniable that cities that legislate to attract remote workers are much more attractive than those that don’t,” Lebtig said.

The most suitable visa for remote workers is the digital nomad visa, which is a combination of work and holiday visas. With this visa, the country allows travelers to work while on holiday without having to pay income tax.

According to Lebtig, currently there are only a few cities that offer digital nomad visas. In fact, only 17 out of 85 cities offer digital nomad visas for remote workers, one of which is Bali, Indonesia.

So, which cities are the best for working remotely? Here’s the list.

1. Barcelona, Spain

2. Dubai, United Arab Emirates
