Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The International Football Federation (FIFA) has opened its voice regarding the condition of the grass at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) which has been criticized by netizens during the 2023 U-17 World Cup until now.
Quoting from the official PSSI website, FIFA emphasized that JIS had carried out trials well in optimal international reach.
So far, all the teams that have played in the four stadiums for the 2023 U-17 World Cup have expressed satisfaction with the quality of the pitches in the stadiums and training grounds. In fact, FIFA said it was satisfied with the achievements of PSSI and the Indonesian Government which had fulfilled the task of renovating the stadium, including JIS.
“Since JIS was chosen as one of the venues for the U-17 World Cup, PSSI and the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) have worked hard to improve the quality of the stadium and meet the minimum requirements for stadiums used for official FIFA tournaments,” FIFA said in its statement. , Tuesday (14/11/2023).
Apart from JIS, three other stadiums that hosted the match, namely Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (Surabaya, East Java), Jalak Harupat Stadium (Bandung, West Java), and Manahan Stadium (Solo, Central Java) were also assessed according to football tournament standards. international football.
FIFA Reveals Types of Grass for 2023 U-17 World Cup Stadium Fields
FIFA Senior Pitch Management, Alan Ferguson, said that the type of grass used on the field is Zoysia. According to Ferguson, the quality of the grass that usually grows in this tropical country is very good regardless of humidity and rainfall factors.
Ferguson said that using Zoysia grass would be a special challenge during the 2023 U-17 World Cup, especially due to humidity and rainfall during the rainy season.
“However, all of this has been managed very well with minimal disruption. Field maintenance, lawn mowers and imports of professional equipment are new things in Indonesia,” said Ferguson.
“I think not only does it provide a great platform for a great tournament, but it also provides a great platform for a great legacy,” he added.
According to PSSI, until October 9 2023, the Zoysia grass used at JIS was harvested directly from Pelita Harapan University (UPH). Meanwhile, the pitch replacement process is closely monitored by the FIFA pitch management team who carry out quality checks every day.
“The harvesting process uses a special machine which can produce rolls of carpet-like grass with a thickness of more than 4 centimeters,” wrote PSSI.
JIS Field Grass Criticized by Netizens
Previously, netizens criticized the condition of the grass at the stadium located in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta after holding two matches at the 2023 U-17 World Cup.
Netizens think that the JIS stadium grass is not good because it has different colors, namely bright green on one side of the field and dark green on the other side of the field. Not only that, quite a few netizens compared the grass before and after it was replaced for the U-17 World Cup.
Reporting from detiksport, Member of the Executive Committee (Exco), Arya Sinulingga, asked netizens to watch the grass directly at the stadium, not on television.
“Of course the pitch is good, if the pitch and grass weren’t good, how could they (England) be able to get to 10-0. Sometimes I’m also confused, compared, this was the past and this is now,” said Arya.
“Sometimes people don’t see, grass isn’t just about what it looks like on TV, what’s more, it could be that the color saturation on the TV looks really green, but the one below doesn’t,” he continued.
Meanwhile, New Caledonia coach, Leonardo Lopez, praised the quality of JIS grass. In fact, the New Caledonia team admitted that they had experienced all the facilities at JIS.
“Not (bad). That is very good for us. If there was a field in Caledonia like that every week it would certainly be very good for us,” said Lopez after the match against England on Saturday (11/11/2023).
