Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Friday (10/11/2023). The visit to Saudi was carried out to attend the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit regarding Palestine.
On his Instagram, Jokowi hopes that the summit can produce something concrete to restore stability in the Gaza Strip region.
“In Saudi Arabia, I will attend the Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) which specifically discusses the situation in Gaza, Palestine. This summit is important as a joint effort to stop Israeli attacks on Palestine,” he explained shortly before flying to Riyadh from Surabaya. East Java.
Escalation in the Gaza area continues to increase after Israel bombarded the area sporadically. This was done by Tel Aviv to destroy the Hamas group, which attacked the Jewish State on October 7 and killed 1,400 residents.
Even though it claims to target Hamas, Israel’s attacks have in fact caused great damage to civilians. So far, the number of civilians killed in Gaza has reached at least 11,000.
The international community has asked Tel Aviv to stop its attacks on Gaza because of the impact on civilians. Even so, Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu did not budge, thinking that stopping the attacks would bring victory to Hamas.
Meanwhile, from Saudi Arabia, Jokowi will continue his journey to Washington DC on November 12 2023 to meet with the President of the United States (US) Joe Biden and attend the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Summit in San Francisco.
“We ask for prayers from all people for a smooth and easy journey,” he added.
