Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Recently the Government inaugurated the Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train (Whoosh). This train is increasingly in demand by passengers, which was proven last week to record the highest number of passengers.
On Sunday (12/11/2023), Whoosh passengers reached 21,312 people through the operation of 36 itineraries with details of 28 regular trips and 8 additional trips.
The increasing popularity of ‘Whoosh’ raises questions about the fate of the Argo Parahyangan train, which operated much earlier. However, KAI emphasized that this train continues to operate and is not affected from an operational perspective.
“So far, the Argo Parahyangan train is still operating normally, there has been no reduction in fleet size, and there has been no reduction in operational schedules,” said PT KAI Vice President of Public Relations, Joni Martinus to CNBC Indonesia, quoted Saturday (18/11/23).
Currently, there are two options for transportation via train from Jakarta to Bandung, namely the Whoosh Fast Train, which has only been operating for the last month, and the Argo Parahyangan Train, which has been operating much longer. KAI believes that the two can complement each other.
“With the Whoosh Fast Train which is a National Strategic Project (PSN), and the Argo Parahyangan train which connects Bandung – Jakarta, this makes it easier for people to transport and makes it a choice/alternative for traveling from Jakarta to Bandung or vice versa,” he said. .
Based on KAI records, the average passenger volume for the Argo Parahyangan train on weekends, namely Friday to Sunday, reaches 6,000 – 7,000 customers every day. Meanwhile, the average passenger volume for the Argo Parahyangan train on weekdays, Monday to Thursday, reaches 4,000 – 5,000 customers every day.
