Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said the government is focused on protecting domestic industry. By tightening supervision of the flow of imported goods into the domestic market.
This policy, he said, followed President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)’s direction at the Internal Cabinet Meeting at the beginning of last October, firmly ordering a tightening of the inflow of imported goods.
He ensured that the tightening would not disrupt the smooth flow of cargo and unloading at the port and increase dwelling time.
This was conveyed when delivering information regarding the Results of the Joint Law Enforcement Operation of the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) and the Directorate General of PKTN, Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) at the DJBC Customs Stockpiling Place (TPP), Jababeka III Industrial Area, Bekasi, West Java , Thursday (26/10/2023). Also present were Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani, Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan, as well as officials from the Directorate General of Customs and Excise and the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag).
As a result of the invasion of imported goods, said Airlangga, a number of domestic industrial sectors were hit.
“The sectors that have been hit hard so far are MSMEs, cosmetics, then also textiles, clothing, children’s toys. So this is what we are tightening,” he said.
“Don’t let domestic industry, IKM industry, which has a large market but be flooded with goods from abroad, whose markets abroad are growing. This will be protected by the government,” stressed Airlangga.
Airlangga explained that tightening import supervision was carried out by changing the post-border to a border, with the fulfillment of the Import Approval (PI) and Surveyor’s Report (LS).
Where, out of a total of 11,415 HS, there are limited import trade regulations (lartas) for 6,910 HS or around 60.5% and the remaining 39.5% are non-lartas goods.
Of the 60.5% of commodities affected by the traffic, as many as 3,662 HS (32.1%) underwent supervision at the border and as many as 3,248 HS (28.4%) underwent post-border supervision.
“And with this change, it turns out that after studying it, it does not change dwelling time. So, this is a good thing. And of course this is with synergy between ministries, followed up by the Import Control Task Force, which is also followed up concretely in the field,” he stressed.
“This is clear evidence of the government’s serious attention to continuing to protect domestic industry and MSMEs from the threat of illegal imported goods. This is also a very good result of coordination in implementing the import tightening policy,” concluded Airlangga.
