Gen Z style selfies are crazy, here’s the correct way to take portraits. Tech – 16 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Gen Z style selfie photos are now becoming a trend and are loved by various groups. The selfie photo is called a “.5” selfie (read: point five).

This trend utilizes the iPhone’s rear camera with a 0.5 ultra wide lens for selfie photos.

The Selfie .5 became famous after Apple first introduced the Ultra Wide camera lens to its iPhone 11 product line. This style is very popular among Generation Z, or people born after 1997.

Gen Z was born when the era of smartphones, social media and AI arrived, so they are used to following constantly changing technology trends.

On platforms like Instagram, for example, Gen Z users don’t like feeds that are perfectly curated and filled with filtered photos. On the other hand, many Gen Z people pay attention to the aesthetics of clothes that are simple, casual and look ‘messy’.

“The photo is not like a selfie in general, a photo [selfie .5] it shouldn’t be made perfectly,” said Rachel Aquino, 24, to CNBC International in an interview, quoted on Monday (30/10/2023).

“The essence of selfies is spontaneity, you really capture the moment in real time,” he added

Aquino has been taking 0.5 selfies every day for the past year. He said he uses it this way for personal documentation of his daily life, his clothes, events and moments with his family.

To take a .5 selfie, you can open the camera application on your iPhone. Then switch to the 0.5 mode that appears above the word “photo” to access the camera’s ultra wide lens. Then turn the rear camera facing your face, so you can’t see the cellphone screen.

Next is about angles. Extend your arms straight, raise your phone above your head, and press the volume button to take a picture. You need to be careful with this step so as not to press the power button accidentally.

Because the camera angle is very wide, you don’t need to worry when taking selfies with lots of people. As a result, the selfie .5 can serve as an easy way to capture photos with large groups or beautiful backgrounds.

Make sure you don’t shake your arm when taking it, because it can result in a shaky or blurry photo. But for some people, getting blurry photos is the main goal.
