FPL Gameweek 25 early Scout picks: Two triple-ups

Not as quickly as usual due to deadline disruption, we’ve put together the Scout Picks ‘bus teams’ for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Matchweek 25.

Upcoming Scout Troop nominations, pre-match press conferences and midweek EFL Cup action will help shape our final Scout Picks on Friday.

However, this initial draft at least gives an idea of the players and teams that will be considered.

As usual, there are certain limitations to our squad:

  • Budget £83.0m for our starting XI
  • The overall squad cap is £100.0 million
  • No more than three players per team

YOUTH’S POSSIBILITIES

FPL notes: Semenyo almost banned, new United

After impressive clean sheets in the league and cup over the last few days, you can bet that we’ll have at least one Arsenal backline representative in our Scout Picks. Maybe even two.

Sunderland have been tough customers this season but away from home, they have scored six goals in 12 games. Only Wolverhampton Wanderers have a worse record.

Gabriel Magalhaes (£7.0m), with an average of more points per start (7.5) than any other FPL asset, is a good choice to feature. Jurrien Wood (£6.3m), the best defender for expected goal involvement (xGI), could also join him, although there’s always the boring old stuff. David Raya (£5.9m) as an alternative.

There will likely be one or three Chelsea options too. The Blues will face Wolves who are at the bottom of the standings, who have been showing their best performance recently. They certainly beat Bournemouth on Saturday. But in a week where Liverpool and Manchester City go head-to-head, and standout games become increasingly rare, no warning will stop Scouts targeting this match.

It’s more of a ‘who’ question, after the midweek effort at the Emirates. Can Cole Palmer (£10.4m) could possibly see Scout Picks after Liam Rosenior kept him in north London? And with Trevoh Chalobah (£5.7m) started the last two games (and Rosenior showed more willingness to rotate him, albeit in the Champions League), is Robert Sanchez (£4.9m) a safer route into the Blues backline?

The hope is that Joao Pedro (£7.4m) rested last weekend. Liam Delap (£6.2m) has also just started twice in a row. Pedro has had five returns in the last three Gameweeks, so he is the front-runner this week.

Enzo FernandezMeanwhile, his unbroken stint (£6.8m) in the starting XI continues. There have now been seven consecutive starts across all competitions, with Rosenior praising his “rare athleticism” on Monday. Likewise with the Chelsea boss Finally take the opportunity to rest its star midfielder, with another game coming 72 hours after that? One to ponder this weekend.

Don’t worry about nearly identical names Bruno Fernandes (£9.5 million). Averaging 8.0 points per game since returning from injury, he was again the captain this week. It is not impossible that we will look for a second United striker.

IN CONTENTION

FPL Notes: Ban Calafiori + Rice as top goal-scoring midfielders

Arsenal’s forwards are less exciting than their defenders, given the strength of Sunderland’s defence.

Bukayo Saka (£10.0m) seems implausible, but can we really believe it? Contact Maduyke (£6.8m) first? Mikel Arteta could easily join Gabriel Martinelli (£6.8m) on the right, as he did in the closing stages of the last two games. This would probably be a safe thing to do first Declan Rice (£7.5m), and at least the midfielder’s creativity numbers suggest he is ‘worthy’ of assists. However, DefCons have been drying up lately.

Who knows what will happen between Burnley v West Ham United? The Hammers have been in better form since the arrival of their new striker, who seems to be getting the best out of him Crysencio Summerville (£5.5 million) esp. Either he or Jarrod Bowen (£7.6m) might do the trick this week – and not by much, statistically speaking:

Perhaps the task of taking penalties could change in this regard.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£6.0m) can be seen at home to Nottingham Forest, although Tricky Trees’ defensive numbers have been good since Sean Dyche took over. The same goes for Everton, who will be tasked with canceling it Harry Wilson (£6.1m) – someone who is never far from Scout Picks consideration.

In fact, the Toffees have kept a clean sheet in five of their last seven away games, as has one of their four centre-backs – we’re using the DefCon monster James Tarkowski (£5.8m) here – prefer Wilson?

There was a similar ‘who do you prefer’ dilemma at Vitality Stadium.

Are we back Morgan Rogers (£7.7m) or note Bournemouth’s impressive defensive numbers at home? In the Mark Senesi (£4.8 million) and James Hill (£3.9m), they also have the possibility of getting DefCon points.

LONGER SHOT

Bowen, Thiago, Saka: Buy, keep or sell in Gameweek 25?

Newcastle United v Brentford is difficult to call. The Magpies tend to be better at home, while Brentford are erratic away from home.

But how big will Wednesday’s EFL Cup semi-final be to Newcastle? In addition, Eddie Howe often rotates as his team undergoes the busiest schedule of any Premier League team over the coming month. Igor Thiago (£7.1m) could even sneak in, if we imagine a second-half slump like the one we saw at Anfield.

Finally, Liverpool v Manchester City. Traditionally, this is a match where some FPL managers avoid selecting either side, anticipating some sort of ‘cancellation’. But neither team has been completely convincing defensively (one clean sheet in five each), so an in-form asset Antoine Semenyo (£7.8 million), Hugo Ekitike (£8.8 million) and Florian Wirtz (£8.3 million) may get more excitement than we believe. Considering its expenditure and form, Erling Haaland (£15.0m) may have to sit out this one.
