Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The World Health Organization (WHO) states that an average of around 160 children in Gaza, Palestine, die every day due to Israeli attacks.
“Based on Ministry of Health figures in Gaza, an average of around 160 children are killed every day,” said WHO spokesperson, Christian Lindmeier, at a press conference in Geneva, Switzerland, quoted from Anadolu Agency, Thursday (9/11/2023).
Therefore, Lindmeier reiterated the “urgent need” for a humanitarian pause to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people. Moreover, the Palestinian people currently live with a shortage of food, water and fuel.
“Thousands of people in Gaza have died and those who are alive are experiencing trauma, disease and lack of food and water,” said Lindmeier.
“They need water, fuel, food and safe access to health services to survive,” he continued.
According to Lindmeier, all humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza is ready to be sent. However, providing assistance is still hampered by the difficulty of safe and secure access.
“We need safe and secure and unimpeded access to patients and hospitals in Gaza,” said Lindmeier.
Apart from that, Lindmeier also touched on the emergency conditions experienced by hospitals in the northern part of Gaza, such as the overflowing number of patients, limited fuel, and increasingly low stock of medicines.
Lindmeier said that all doctors in Gaza had completely run out of medical supplies to treat patients. In fact, they were forced to operate on patients without anesthesia.
He admitted that during more than a month of war between Israel and Hamas, WHO was only able to bring and provide medical supplies once. Apart from that, all medical supplies were immediately used because they were an emergency
“All supplies were received immediately and immediately taken to the operating room because everything that was brought in, including anesthesia, was needed right then and there,” Lindmeier said.
Based on the latest data from the Gaza Ministry of Health, 10,568 residents were reported killed and 4,324 others injured. Of the total victims, the majority were women and children.
Meanwhile, more than 155 people in the West Bank were killed and 2,250 others were injured. In Israel, as many as 1,400 people were killed and more than 7,198 people were injured.
