Many Indonesian citizens are observing political movements ahead of the elections through information circulating in the virtual world. However, you have to be careful because often this information is fake, aka a hoax.
Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi provides tips for preventing election hoaxes in cyberspace.
First, he asked the public not to be lured by sensational news that shares information without checking the truth. Apart from that, the public is asked to check the information they receive from cyberspace themselves.
For example, looking for trusted sources to check the news that is spreading. Checks can also be carried out with different sources to ensure the correctness of the information.
“Compare news that sounds striking or controversial. Look for similar information from different sources to ensure the truth,” said Budi at the Election Hoax Awareness Press Conference, Friday (27/10/2023).
Budi also asked for community cooperation regarding election hoaxes. Because according to him, efforts to prevent fake news do not require cooperation from all parties.
Director General of Aptics Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan also explained that it was necessary to compare the information received with news from trusted sources. He touched on the spread of hoaxes using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and reminded the public to seek information based on sources from major news channels.
“It is impossible for big news not to be covered by the media,” he said.
The public can also check hoax information on the official Kominfo website, namely https://komin.fo/ini. The site contains a number of pieces of information that are labeled hoaxes or disinformation.
Semuel explained that his party would display the hoax or disinformation found along with the real facts.
“Yes, basically every time the site is debunked there are facts and hoaxes,” said Semuel.
Apart from that, the public can report findings of hoax content to the aduankonten.id page. Budi promised that every report would be processed as soon as possible.
“As quickly as 1 x 24 hours, we can clean it up,” he stressed.
