Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The creator of ChatGPT revealed that humans will unite and merge to become part of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the future. This option was inevitably chosen to compete with sophisticated, super intelligent machines.
Chief scientist at OpenAI, ChatGPT’s parent company, Ilya Sutskever, said the rise of AI in the future could encourage people to join the technology so that it doesn’t become obsolete.
“Once you overcome the challenges of AI, then what? Is there still room for humans in a world with smarter AI?” he said, quoted from InsiderTuesday (31/10/2023).
“One possibility, something that may be crazy by today’s standards, but not so crazy by future standards, is that many people will choose to join AI,” he added.
Sutskever is currently working on OpenAI’s “superalignment” project, which aims to build a safe that will prevent super-intelligent AI from going rogue.
However, he also thinks about how humanity can keep up with AI that is much smarter than the human brain. He also suggested that human augmentation could provide the answer.
“In the beginning, only the bravest and most adventurous people would try it,” he explains.
Sutskever himself said he wasn’t sure whether he would choose to join AI, if it did happen in the future.
However, Sutskever is not as clear as Elon Musk who speculates about merging humans with AI. Although, it is still unclear what the mechanism for combining humans with AI is that he mentioned.
On the one hand, Musk, who owns a brain implant company, Neuralink, said the company’s ultimate goal is to achieve symbiosis with AI. Humans are said to be joining AI so that they are not “left behind” by super intelligent machines.
However, Neuralink is still far from that goal. They are currently facing controversy over claims that monkeys implanted with the company’s brain chips experienced horrific and painful deaths.
