Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – K-Pop group BLACKPINK was the guest of honor invited to attend the dinner at Buckingham Palace, London, on Tuesday (21/11/2023) local time. What is special, at this state event, King Charles III mentioned the members’ names one by one: Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa.
“I commend Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rose; known as BLACKPINK; for their role in conveying the message of environmental sustainability to the global community,” said King Charles in his speech.
Hearing their name called, the BLACKPINK members glanced at each other, then blushed at the praise from the leader of the British Empire.
BLACKPINK itself was an ambassador for COP26, an annual international climate conference held by the UN, in 2021 in Glasgow, England.
Apart from praising BLACKPINK’s role in global environmental issues, King Charles III also praised South Korean creativity and culture, such as Gangnam Style by PSY and the popular Netflix series, Squid Game.
In his speech, King Charles III also said that “The Korean people have created a miracle” in their journey from “wartime ruin” to a thriving nation, where “industrial efficiency has grown to become the epitome of technological innovation.”
