People must be withdrawn from the debris of buildings that were destroyed when a large earthquake hit turkey.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 struck the Province of Balasir in northwestern Türkiye on Sunday, killing at least one person and injured at least 29.
The earthquake, with an earthquake in Sindirgi City, sent a surprise that felt about 125 miles in the north of the capital of Istanbul – a city of more than 16 million people.
An old woman died shortly after being withdrawn from the ruins of the collapsed building in Sindirgi, Minister of the Interior Ali Yerlikaya told reporters.
Four other people were saved from the building.
Television footage shows the rescue team asking for silence so that they can listen to the signs of life under the debris.
Jerlikaya said a total of 16 buildings collapsed in the region – most of them were displaced and not used. Two mosque towers also collapsed, he said.
The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Agency said the earthquake was followed by several aftershocks, including one size of 4.6, and urged residents not to enter damaged buildings.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a statement that hoped that all victims of recovery.
“May God protect our country from all kinds of disasters,” he wrote in X.
Türkiye is above the main fault line and earthquakes often occur.
In 2023, an earthquake measuring 7.8 killed more than 53,000 people in Türkiye and destroyed or damaged hundreds of thousands of buildings in 11 South and Southeast Provinces.
6,000 other people were killed in the near northern part of Syria.
