Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Humanitarian agencies issued an urgent warning after thousands of Palestinian civilians trapped in the Gaza Strip reported starvation.
Launching from CBS Newsthe Palestinian branch of the international charity ActionAid said that more than 500 thousand Palestinians in northern Gaza are at risk of death from starvation because food supplies are running low within a month.
“Aid is still entering Gaza, but some food and water that crosses the border cannot be transported north because the roads have been destroyed by bombing,” said ActionAid Palestine Advocacy and Communications Coordinator, Riham Jafari, quoted Saturday (11/11/2023).
Jafari said that cases of dehydration and malnutrition in Gaza increased significantly and rapidly during the Israeli attack on Palestine.
Meanwhile, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that not a single bakery in northern Gaza was open due to a lack of fuel, water or flour.
“No food or bottled water has been distributed to Gaza for a week,” the OCHA statement said.
OCHA reported that before Israel attacked Palestine, 70 percent of children in the Gaza Strip suffered from various health problems, including malnutrition, anemia and weakened immunity.
Human Rights Monitor, Euro-Med, stated that the number of children experiencing health problems increased by more than 90 percent due to increasingly brutal Israeli attacks.
Euro-Med confirmed that women and children in Gaza suffered “disproportionate” suffering during the Israeli offensive. Reportedly, around 52,500 babies in Gaza are at risk of starvation, death, dehydration and other health hazards. In addition, there are 55 thousand pregnant women, 5,500 of whom are expected to give birth this month.
Apart from that, Euro-Med also stated that to date, Israel has only allowed around 2 percent of aid and food supplies to enter the Gaza Strip through the Rafah entrance.
