10 College Majors whose Graduates Can Earn the Highest Salaries Lifestyle – 2 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Some college majors can provide pathways into high-paying jobs. After four years of studying in that particular department, students have the opportunity to earn up to billions in income per year.

Based on a report by a research and higher education consulting company, The HEA Group, graduates from a number of majors can earn US$ 256,539 (Rp. 3.8 billion) a year, while others earn less than US$ 10,000 (Rp. 148 million) per year.

The highest earning majors are dominated by STEM fields, or degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Half of the top 10 majors with graduates earning the most money are engineering.


Founder and president of The HEA Group, Michael Itzkowitz, said the income estimates were obtained from an analysis of data collected by the US Department of Education from more than two million students who received federal financial aid and graduated in 2015 or 2016. Their income was measured in 2019 and 2020.

The following are the college majors with graduates who earn the highest salaries in the United States according to the CNBC Make It report.

1. Nuclear engineering: US$ 131,454.00 (Rp. 1.9 billion)

2. Biomathematics, Bioinformatics Computational Biology: US$ 116,918.00 (Rp. 1.7 billion)

3. Operations Research: US$ 112,097.00 (Rp. 1.66 billion)

4. Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering US$ 109,121.00 (Rp. 1.62 billion

5. Computer Science: US$ 104,799.00 (Rp. 1.55 billion)

6. Sea Transportation: US$ 103,626.00 (Rp. 1.54 billion)

7. Computer Engineering: US$ 99,063.00

8. Veterinary Medicine: US$ 97,533.00 (Rp. 1.47 billion)

9. Petroleum Engineering: US$ 96,957.00 (Rp. 1.44 billion)

10. Systems Engineering: US$ 95,224.00 (Rp. 1.41 billion)

Nuclear engineering majors earn the most, with an average annual salary of US$ 131,454. Many companies are looking for nuclear engineering graduates as demand for clean and renewable energy increases.

Engineering graduates, in general, are needed in many industries, including manufacturing, cybersecurity, construction, and agriculture. Chemical engineering and industrial engineering, which have consistently been the two highest-paying college majors over the past several years, are also the two jobs projected to grow the most by 2031, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
