The EFL Cup semi-final draw took place on Wednesday evening after Newcastle United and Manchester City followed Chelsea into the last four.
And here it is:
- Chelsea v Arsenal or Crystal Palace
- Newcastle United vs Manchester City
WHEN WILL THE EFL CUP SEMIFINALS BE PLAYED?
The semifinals were a two-legged tie, as is tradition.
The first leg will be played in between Gameweeks 21 and 22.
And the second leg will be contested between Gameweeks 24 and 25.
WILL THE EFL CUP FINAL LEAD TO AN EMPTY GAMEWEEK?
Possible.
We’re looking to the future here, with the new final to be contested on Sunday 22 March.
This led to clashes with Game week 31 in FPL terms.
We say “maybe” because there is a big gap between Game Weeks 31 and 32, as shown in the calendar below.
Of course, postponed matches cannot be held during the March international break after Matchweek 31, but can the EFL Cup finalists both of them eliminated from the FA Cup in the quarter-finals, or both of them eliminated from Europe, then it is feasible to still be able to play before Gameweek 32:

WHEN ELSE WILL THE POSTPONED GAMEWEEK 31 MATCHES BE PLAYED?
We had some free time in the middle of the week after that Gameweek 33 And Gameweek 36which may cause delays determined by the cup. League fixtures affected by the FA Cup semi-finals may also need to be accommodated in recent weeks.
Mid week after Game week 37 will also be free for everyone except the Europa League finalists.
If none of the EFL Cup finalists qualify for the European play-offs, there is the possibility of a slot after that Game week 26 And Game week 27.
In all cases, a Double Match Week will be created.
WHO COULD BE EMPTY AT GAMEWEEK 31?
Crystal Palace and Arsenal will play in the quarter-finals next Tuesday.
If Palace and Man City both qualify for Wembley, we will only have one Gameweek 31 game postponed:

So, it will be a long time before anything is known about Blanket/Double Match Week.
Nothing will be decided before Matchday 24, after which the EFL Cup final line-ups will be finalized. That will happen in early February.
That said, we probably won’t get a new date reset right away as Gameweek 31 is postponed.
Things to look out for in the long term, rather than worrying about too many things in the moment.
