Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Kemenkop UKM) confirmed that the TikTok Shop will reopen.
This was revealed by the Assistant Deputy for UKM Financing and Investment at the Ministry of Cooperatives and UKM, Temmy Satya Permana. He said that from the information he got he would comply with the regulations in force in Indonesia.
“(Surely it will open again?) open, the information I got from TikTok they will open and comply,” said Temmy when met at the Kemenkop UKM Office, Friday (17/11/2023).
Even so, he cannot confirm whether it is true that TikTok will collaborate with e-commerce and who the company will be partnering with.
Previously reported, TikTok was holding talks with Indonesian e-commerce companies about a possible partnership.
In an interview quoted from Reuters, Minister of Cooperatives and MSMEs Teten Masduki. revealed that TikTok had discussed with 5 Indonesian ecommerce companies including Tokopedia, Bukalapak, and Blibli. The other two companies were not mentioned by Teten.
“But I don’t dare to say anything yet. It’s possible that he will join (e-commerce). Possibly yes, because if he creates his own PT, I don’t think so,” he said.
He emphasized that whatever scheme TikTok implements, the company must comply with and adapt to the regulations in force in Indonesia.
Temmy explained that the plan is that on November 20 2023 there will be a meeting between the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew.
“We actually asked them on the 20th (November). But there has been no answer from the CEO. Not Tiktok but Bytedance in Singapore.” he concluded.
TikTok Shop was closed in October after the Ministry of Trade issued revised regulations regarding e-commerce, which prohibited social media platforms from operating simultaneously as e-commerce, as well as prohibiting the control of cross-platform data by the same company.
