Latest! This is the BMKG forecast regarding the start of the rainy season at RI Tech – 3 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the start of the rainy season in Indonesia will not occur simultaneously.

Until mid-October this year, several seasonal zones (ZOM) had started to enter the rainy season. This includes parts of Aceh, North Sumatra, most of Riau and West Sumatra.

“So in general, in parts of Sumatra, including Bengkulu, parts of Kalimantan it has started, in Central Sulawesi, Maluku, West Papua and Papua, the rainy season has started in October,” said Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati in a webinar entitled When is the Rainy Season Coming, Saturday (28/10/2023).

Meanwhile, most of the rainy season will start in November, such as in Java, southern Sumatra, southern Kalimantan and parts of Papua. Then continues in December.

He said that even one island can have a different start to the rainy season, depending on the longitude coordinates of the area.

He further explained that there were 446 ZOMs where the rainy season was delayed compared to normal, on average it was delayed by around 3 basis.

“Most of the regions, namely 64 percent, including parts of Java, parts of South Sumatra and parts of South Kalimantan experienced a decline,” he explained.

“If (the rainy season) advances a little, it advances 1 basis around East Kalimantan, in parts of North and Central Sulawesi, as well as parts in Sulawesi,” he added.

Meanwhile, the peak of the rainy season for the 2023/2024 period in most parts of Indonesia is predicted to occur in January and February 2024, namely 385 ZOM (55.08%).

When compared to the normal peak of the rainy season, the peak of the rainy season in most areas is predicted to be the same as normal, namely 351 ZOM (50.21%). Meanwhile, other areas are predicted to move back to normal, namely 203 ZOM (29.04%) and advance to normal, namely 145 ZOM (20.74%)
