This is the fate of 3 Indonesian volunteers who chose to stay in Gaza Lifestyle – 3 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Chairman of the Presidium of the Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C), Dr. Sarbini Abdul Murad, revealed that three Indonesian citizens (WNI) who were MER-C volunteers decided to remain in Gaza, Palestine.

The latest news is that the three volunteers are confirmed to be still in safe condition after Israel carried out 11 missile attacks on the area around the Indonesian Hospital, Thursday (9/11/2023) evening. Reportedly, the three volunteers were in the basement when the attack occurred.

“To this day, MER-C volunteers are still remaining in Gaza even though the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) has repeatedly asked them to [mau] to be evacuated,” said Dr. Sarbini in an online media meeting by the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI), Friday (10/11/2023).

“We stayed there because there was a big task that our friends had to carry out. They not only represent MER-C, but also represent 280 million Indonesian people. They did this with a humanitarian mission,” continued Dr. Sarbini.

Previously, the MER-C volunteer representative stated that he and two other volunteers decided to remain in Gaza to help distribute aid to the people of Gaza. This was conveyed through a video uploaded via the official MER-C Instagram account (@mercindonesia).

“I and two other MER-C volunteers are currently in front of the Indonesian Hospital. We have decided not to take part in the evacuation outside the Gaza Strip, considering that God willing, we will continue to help the people of Gaza, especially at the Indonesian Hospital,” said one of the volunteers, Last Saturday (4/11/2023).

“Hopefully this war will end quickly and the Rafah gates on the border between Egypt and Gaza can be quickly opened so that trucks of humanitarian aid can be distributed to the people of Gaza who are currently in need,” continued the volunteer.

Current Conditions in Gaza

Dr. Sarbini revealed that the current condition of Gaza is getting worse and out of control. According to him, the remaining hospitals in Gaza are also places for Palestinian refugees.

“It could be said that the hospital is no longer suitable. Not just the victims, all residents are taking shelter there,” said Dr. Sarbini.

“The only hospitals that are still active are the Indonesian Hospital and Al-Shifa Hospital. Only two hospitals are still active, the others have all collapsed,” he continued.

Apart from that, Dr. Sarbini said that until now the Indonesian Hospital had not received any assistance. Because all the aid that was ready to enter Rafah’s door could not enter.

“If someone asks me, “How, doc, is the condition of Indonesian Hospitals now and tomorrow?”, it will be difficult for me [menjawabnya]. “I can only pray, hopefully there will be a miracle from God,” said Dr. Sarbini.

Most recently, the Palestinian Ministry of Health and the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reported that 10,569 people were killed in Gaza, including 4,324 children and 2,823 women.

Meanwhile, 26,475 other people consisting of 8,663 children and 6,327 women were injured.
