Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) Arief Prasetyo Adi explained the reason why the price of granulated sugar or consumer sugar on the market jumped to Rp. 16,160 per kg. This, he said, was because the realization of sugar imports by stakeholders, both state-owned food companies and the private sector, was slow, thus affecting the supply and price of sugar in the country.
Based on data from the Food Agency’s price panel, the average national price of sugar consumption at the consumer level as of today, November 8 2023, is IDR 16,160 per kg or an increase of 0.25% from the previous week.
According to Arief, importers holding sugar import quotas should immediately execute the remaining import quotas they have, even though international sugar price fluctuations are currently high and the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar is weakening.
“Now the price of sugar is high, he asked the Food Agency. Why wasn’t it imported yesterday? There was already an import permit,” said Arief when met at the DPR RI complex, Wednesday (8/11/2023).

Apart from that, Arief said that currently the realization of consumption sugar imports is only 26% of the total import quota of almost 1 million tons in 2023. Therefore, he emphasized that all parties holding sugar import quotas, both from the private sector and state-owned enterprises, immediately realize the import quotas. to ensure sugar stocks are available at the end of the year.
“We have to agree on number one availability, otherwise we won’t have stock. For me, this is something that is not good,” he said.
Furthermore, Arief said that his party had set the sales reference price (HAP) for consumer sugar at the retail level to IDR 16,000 per kg, an increase from the previous HAP set by Perbadanan Number 17/2023 of IDR 14,500-Rp 15,500 per kilogram.
“We already have the letter, Deputy 1 sent it 2 days ago. We are relaxing the quotation mark for modern channels (retail), we are increasing it to IDR 16,000 per kg,” concluded Arief.
