Bracknell Town, Ascot United, Binfield, Hungerford Town and Windsor & Eton have been given new incentives and targets for the upcoming season.
This hasn’t been widely reported (we only saw it on Weymouth’s Twitter account) but from next season we understand that the Southern League will move to an expanded playoff format similar to the National League – and you might expect this format to extend to the Isthmian League and Northern League.
This will work as follows:
- The Champion will be promoted.
- The teams in second and third place will advance to the semifinals and host the semifinals.
- The teams in fourth through seventh will play “quarterfinals” for a chance to play the teams in second and third.
Although a seventh-place finish would mean the club would have to play three away play-offs, it is another route to potential promotion.
This will help ensure the season lasts longer as many clubs will still have a chance to qualify for the playoffs as the end of the season approaches. Whether it is fair that the team finishing in seventh place can gain promotion, while the team in second place cannot, is another matter.
The Southern League will begin on 8 August 2026 with the season finale on Saturday 17 April 2027. The playoffs will begin on 20 April 2027 with the final on Bank Holiday Monday 3 May 2027.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
