Ruben Amorim defended Andre Onana after Manchester United’s shock from the Carabao Cup Cup to Grimsby City on Wednesday night.
United were left behind in Blundell Park because the League two team was two goals in front of half a time after two mistakes from Onana.
The Cameroon International was beaten in his close post for the opening of Charles Vernam and completely skipped the ball from an angle that allowed Tyrell Warren to double the advantages of Grimsby.
Bryan Mbeumo, brought as a substitute for part-time, scored to give United Life before Harry Maguire equalized in the 89th minute.
The tie went straight to the penalty and after a long dramatic shot, Grimsby won 12-11 with Mbuemo losing an important spot kick in sudden death.

Amorim is now facing a new call to bring down Onana after other sub-par performance but United manager refused to blame the goalkeeper.
When asked after the defeat of his team whether United had a goalkeeper problem with Onana, Amorim replied: ‘With all respect, when you play against the fourth division team, it is not the goalkeeper, that’s everything.
‘This is an environment, that’s the way we face competition. We know that we are at that time everyone will pay attention to everything. This will be very big every detail.
“We showed that performance today, so my players spoke, for me, very hard.”
Amorim also continued by saying Grimsby, who is currently fourth in League Two, is the ‘best team’ at night.
“In the end, it doesn’t matter if we recover or not, it’s a sign given by the team during the match, the beginning of the match,” Amorim said.
“I think the best team wins, the only team on the field. The best player loses because one team can win against any group of players, and I think the team and players talk very loudly today, so only that. We lost, the best team won.
“I think it’s really clear what they are talking about, so let’s continue from today and I think it’s clear to everyone what happened today.”
“The way we start the game without any intensity, all the ideas about pressure, we are completely lost and that’s why I think they speak very loudly.”
When asked whether his team made the same mistake from last season, Amorim said: ‘I think that’s the problem. When you lose but see something new, it’s different. When you see something like today, it’s hard to talk about it.
‘I just want to say I’m very sorry for fans. The support they gave me, the support that with all their support helped the team. I don’t have anything to say. I am very sorry. ‘
