Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Huawei’s sharp increase in sales will help China’s cellphone shipments grow throughout October 2023. This was revealed by research firm Counterpoint this week.
The Chinese cellphone market looks like it will rise from the bottom of the abyss at the end of the fourth quarter of 2023. In the first four weeks of October, growth was recorded at positive 11%.
Huawei’s sales increased sharply by 83% year-on-year (YoY). Apart from that, Xiaomi also recorded a sharp increase of up to 33% in the same period.
It is known that Huawei released its newest flagship series, the Mate 60, last August. This cellphone shocked the global smartphone industry, because it marked Huawei’s comeback to the flagship market by developing chips independently.
“Huawei showed brilliant performance in October, through the Mate 60 series. The growth is extraordinary,” said Counterpoint China analyst Archie Zhang, quoted by Reuters, Wednesday (15/11/2023).
However, Counterpoint said Huawei has challenges producing flagships on a larger scale outside the Chinese market.
The Chinese cellphone market has experienced sluggishness in the last few quarters. In the quarter ending last June, Counterpoint recorded that the Chinese cellphone market fell by 3%.
Analysts predict that China’s HP industry will return to growth for the first time in Q4 2023.
The rise of Huawei could be said to be a source of pride for China. The company has been on the US trade sanctions blacklist for three years. As a result, Huawei finds it difficult to make flagship products because it cannot access US technology.
Since then, Xi Jinping’s government has been increasingly active in encouraging independent domestic technological development and removing dependence on the US. It could be said that Huawei’s achievements are proof of Xi Jinping’s government to the US and the world.
