A pedophile who encouraged a teenage girl to self-harm and even scrawled his name on the skin of her neck has been jailed.

Kai Edmundson, 18, lured his vulnerable victim through social media sites including Telegram, Discord and WhatsApp before abusing her for four months.

He then sent the girl, from Derbyshire, up to five indecent photos, while asking her to send photos and clips of herself undressing and carrying out indecent acts.

Edmundson also directed the teenager to a website full of indecent images of children, some as young as four years old.

The sex offender, from Oswaldthistle, Lancashire, told his victim to call him a ‘disgusting pedophile’ and expressed his desire to carry out illegal acts.

Screenshots of the pair’s conversations on Discord show Edmundson demanding the girl self-harm and providing evidence that she had done so, while encouraging her eating disorder.

Officers also found evidence that Edmundson had made the 14-year-old carve his name into the skin of his neck.

Edmundson stopped communicating with the girl on January 31, 2025.

The pedophile was arrested on April 1 after police visited his home and found indecent photos of children on his cell phone.

He later pleaded guilty at Preston Crown Court to a charge of sexual communication with a child; causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity; encouraging or assisting serious self-harm; and possessing indecent images of children.

On Friday Edmundson, who now has no fixed address, was sentenced to five years and three months in prison.

He is also subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and will appear on the sexual offenders register for life.

DS Nicholas Barker, from the eastern internet’s child exploitation team, said: ‘Edmundson was a deeply troubled young man with deeply disturbing views and behaviour. He is someone who poses a serious risk to children because of his online activities.

‘I hope the outcome of this case, and the fact that Edmundson has been sentenced to prison, sends a clear message that the police will not tolerate this abhorrent behavior online. We will work with others to protect victims and bring perpetrators to justice.

“We’re also working hard to get the message out to parents and children to be aware of online predators, like Edmundson. They may act as if they are your friends and care about you, but they are actually dangerous individuals who intend to do you serious harm.”

‘Finally, I would like to commend the victim in this case for the extraordinary courage she has shown throughout this process. Now that the court process is over, I hope he can now start moving on with his life.’
