Middle East Getting Hotter, US Ready to Send War Equipment News – 9 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The increasingly hot situation in the Middle East has made the United States (US) prepare to send a number of weapons of war. Starting from the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system and the Patriot air defense missile system battalion.

The Patriot is said to be one of the most advanced US air defense systems. Meanwhile, THAAD has a strong radar and was used by South Korea, which angered China in 2016.

This latest action follows Washington’s alert to the activities of Iran-backed groups. This happened when regional tensions also increased when the Israel-Hamas war occurred.

“Following detailed discussions with President Biden on the escalation by Iran and its proxy powers in the Middle East, I today directed a series of additional steps to strengthen the defense posture in the region,” said US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, quoted by Reuters, Sunday (22/ 10/2023).

So far, the US has sent a large number of naval forces to the Middle East over the past few weeks. Includes two aircraft carriers, support ships, and 2,000 marines.

Austin explained that he had deployed additional troops, but did not specify the exact number. Previously, the US had stationed around 2,000 troops at high readiness.

As the conflict between Israel and Hamas heats up, there has also been an increase in attacks in Iraq and Syria on US troops.

Last week, for example, a US warship shot down more than a dozen drones and four cruise missiles. All of them were fired by an Iran-backed group from Yemen called Hothi.

This briefing took place two years after the local government withdrew air defense systems from the Middle East. At that time, the US reasoned that tensions with Iran had reduced considerably.
