Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Twitter, which is now called X, is trying to sell account names that have not been used for a long time. They initiated a program previously hinted at by billionaire owner Elon Musk.
Retrieved email Forbes revealed that X’s internal team, known as the @handle team, had begun work on the handle marketplace for purchasing account names that are not used by the person who first registered them.
The company has sent solicitation emails to several potential buyers asking for a fixed fee of US$ 50,000 (Rp. 777 million) to start the purchase.
Elon Musk announced in May that X, would begin purging inactive accounts. At that time he mentioned plans to recycle unused accounts.
X changed the policy this year to stipulate that users must log in every 30 days to remain active. Otherwise, their account will be suspended or permanently deleted. It is unclear how long a user must remain inactive to be completely removed from the platform.
Currently, getting another inactive username doesn’t seem like something just anyone can do. Because the X website still states that it cannot release the names of inactive users.
This report shows that the company is looking for other ways to make money from its users.
X has recently introduced two new subscription levels for paid users, the premium level+ US $ 16 per month and a simpler “base” of US $ 3 per month.
