Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The war in Gaza, Palestine really widened. The Houthi group in Yemen has reportedly started to attack Israel.
The Houthis fired drones and missiles Tuesday (31/10/2923). This group has firmly supported Palestine since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7.
“A large number of ballistic missiles and drones have been launched towards Israel,” Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree was quoted as saying Reuters.
“There will be more such attacks on Israel… to help the Palestinians achieve victory,” he added in a televised statement.
Saree said the attack was the third carried out by the Houthi group against Israel since the start of the conflict. A number of media outlets believe the statement confirms that the Houthis were behind the drone attack on October 28 that resulted in explosions in Egypt and attacks another on the same date, although it was successfully intercepted by the US navy.
It is feared that the participation of the Houthis will pose deeper risks to the Arab region. Previously, a number of countries, including the world’s largest oil producer, Saudi Arabia, had warned against spreading the conflict.
The Houthi group is an important part of the “Axis of Resistance”, which opposes Israel and the United States (US). The Houthis have demonstrated their missile and drone capabilities during the Yemen war in attacks on Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
On the other hand, Iran-backed Iraqi militias have fired on US troops in Iraq and Syria. Meanwhile Hezbollah in Lebanon is reported to have exchanged fire with Israeli troops on the border of the two countries.
Yesterday, the Israeli military also said its forces intercepted a “surface-to-surface missile” fired into Israeli territory from the Red Sea region. The Zionist state said that the missile was “successfully intercepted” by the ‘Arrow’ air defense system.
Meanwhile, Iran itself has issued a new warning to Israel. The country said its proxies would not “stay silent” on the Israel-Hamas war.
According to him, it is normal for a number of groups to attack Israel in connection with the war against Hamas. The country even said there would be wider impacts if a ceasefire was not reached.
The statement was made by top Iranian diplomat Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in the Qatari capital, Doha, Tuesday. The statement came after he met with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and his Qatari counterpart to discuss the push for a diplomatic breakthrough.
“It is natural that resistance groups and movements do not remain silent about all the crimes committed by Israel,” Amir-Abdollahian said in remarks delivered by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, quoted from AFP.
“They will not wait for anyone’s advice, therefore we need to use the last political opportunity to stop the war,” he added, saying the situation could “get out of hand”.
