This time, various world news agencies highlighted the registration period for presidential candidates (bacapres) and vice presidential candidates (bacawapres) with the General Election Commission (KPU).
Singapore news agency Channel News Asia (CNA), in its publication on Thursday (19/10/2023) stated that today is the first day Indonesia officially enters election mode. This was marked by the candidacy of the presidential and vice presidential candidates to the KPU.
“More than 204 million Indonesians will come to the polls on February 14 2024, because the third largest democracy in the world will also determine members of parliament at the national, regional and city levels,” wrote the media in an article entitled “Indonesia kicks off election season today to elect new president, legislators next February”.
“In total, there are more than 20,000 positions up for grabs, which is why experts and the media are calling it the biggest one-day election in the world,” he added.
“This country will also hold simultaneous elections on November 27 2024 to elect 38 governors, 416 regents and 98 mayors throughout the country, which is the first election held in the same year as the national election,” he said again.
It also said how the results of this election will determine who will lead Indonesia, the largest economy in Southeast Asia. Including whether the next leader will continue or even eliminate the legacy left by the current president, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), such as his foreign policy, as well as social programs and infrastructure.
“The president, known as Jokowi, is prohibited from running for a third term under the Indonesian Constitution,” he said again.
“Analysts predict that 2024 will be an intense year for Indonesia’s political landscape, with the potential for tensions and instability to spill over into the following year,” he stressed.
It was also stated how the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) must ensure that thousands of candidates from 18 national political parties and five local political parties take part in the election process. Including investigating allegations of campaign violations and election fraud.
“So far, three candidates have been mentioned as presidential candidates: the current Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, former Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan, and former Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo,” the media said again.

“Baswedan arrived at the Central Jakarta KPU office with his vice presidential candidate, General Chair of the National Awakening Party, Muhaimin Iskandar. He was also accompanied by party coalition leaders who support the pair and thousands of their supporters waited outside the gate,” wrote the media.
As the first registrant, Anies brought the idea of change into his candidacy. He explained that his party wants everyone to have equal opportunities to work, including better health education.
“We are bringing the idea of change to be felt by families in Indonesia,” said Anies, at the KPU. “We want basic needs to be affordable.”
It was also mentioned how the KPU itself had stated that Anies and Cak Imin’s registration files were complete. The KPU will verify the documents afterwards.
“Therefore, administratively what we will receive will be an assessment of the size whether it is complete or incomplete. That’s all approximately. There are things that are not complete that can still be completed. But before we got here, there was a verification team with the joint LO of political parties that had been checked “is declared complete. Thank God,” said KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari.
