Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Executive Board of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) reported an increase in the number of cases of monkey pox or monkeypox in Indonesia, Tuesday (7/11/2023).
Chair of the PB IDI Monkey Pox Task Force, Dr. Hanny Nilasari, SpDV revealed that based on data from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes RI) as of Monday (6/11/2023) at 19.00 WIB, the total number of cases of monkey pox in Indonesia was 35 cases.
“So, there have been 29 confirmed cases in DKI Jakarta. Then, there are five confirmed cases in West Java and one confirmed case in Banten so the current number of confirmed cases is 35 cases,” said Dr. Hanny at an IDI online media meeting, Tuesday (7/11/2023).
Based on data obtained by IDI from the DKI Jakarta Health Service (Dinkes), as many as 28 monkey pox patients experienced accompanying or comorbid diseases. The most common comorbidity experienced by monkey pox patients in DKI Jakarta is HIV, namely ten cases.
“Ten of the 28 people were infected with HIV, then three of the 28 people had related or concurrent syphilis infection, and nine of the 28 patients were both infected with HIV and syphilis,” said Dr. Hanny.
Apart from that, the DKI Jakarta Health Office also recorded one patient with comorbid HIV, syphilis, positive HBsAg or hepatitis B, as well as hypertension; one patient had HIV as well as hypertension; and three patients did not experience comorbidities.
“Meanwhile for the other 7 patients (in West Java and Banten) there is no data yet real“So I can’t provide detailed information yet,” said Dr. Hanny.
Furthermore, Dr. Hanny said that all monkey pox patients were men. Specifically in DKI Jakarta, almost all cases of monkey pox are experienced by patients with a history of same-sex sex.
“24 out of 28 people are MSM or men who have sexual contact with men. So, almost 90 percent are MSM,” explained Dr. Hanny.
“Then, the other two people are heterosexual or who have sexual contact between men and women. Meanwhile, one person is unknown and the other is one person,” he continued.
For your information, monkey pox is a rare zoonotic disease caused by a viral infection monkeypox. Virus monkeypox belongs to the genus Orthopoxvirus in the family Poxviridae.
